NATIONAL NEWS

1. New RAC Corporate Secretary

I want to welcome Alvin Masse, VE3CWP, as RAC's new Corporate 
Secretary. Al comes to us with a wealth of organizational skills, 
history and wisdom and will be a great benefit to RAC. I am looking 
forward to working with Al.  

I want to thank Linda Friars, VE9GLF, for serving as Acting Corporate 
Secretary and also Paul Burggraaf, VO1PRB, for all his support.

2. International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend 

This year's International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend will take
place on August 17 and 18, starting at 0001 UTC and continuing for 48
hours.  The basic objective of the event is to promote public
awareness of lighthouses and lightships and their need for
preservation and restoration, and at the same time to promote amateur
radio and to foster International goodwill.  For more information

3. IARU Region 2 Meeting

The IARU Region 2  Eighteenth General Assembly will take place in
Cancun, Mexico from September 23 to 27. This event is hosted by the
Federación Mexicana de Radio Experimentadores  (FMRE). Cancun 2013
will deal with many important issues regarding the promotion and
defense of amateur radio, HF, VHF and higher band plans and other
issues of importance to Member Societies within Region 2.  For more

4. The K9YA Telegraph

The K9YA Telegraph is a general interest ham radio e-Zine, published
by the Robert F Heytow Memorial Radio Club.  It is free, and is
delivered in PDF format by email.  A subscription link and sample
issues can be found at their web site, www.k9ya.org

5. The Return of Western Electric

The Western Electric name has been resurrected for a new vacuum tube
manufacturing venture in the United States. The Rossville, Georgia
operation will make vacuum tubes mainly for use in high-end audio
components, starting with some exact reproductions of Western
Electric "classics," such as the 300B power triode. Read the full
