NATIONAL NEWS

1. Outstanding ARES ID cards

I am happy to advise that all outstanding ARES ID Cards are now "in
the mail". Please accept my thanks for your patience. We have now
purchased our own machine, so future turnaround time will be days
instead of weeks. RAC also can now produce cards for affiliated
clubs and ARES groups; email me, vo1dtm (at) rac.ca, for details.

2. WRC Report Number One

Rod Stafford, W6ROD has submitted his first report from the World
Radiocommunication Conference 2012. There are a number of agenda
items for WRC-12 that have some impact on amateur radio; one item of
particular interest is a possible new amateur frequency allocation
near 500 kHz. The full report is posted on the RAC blog, at

ONTARIO SECTION NEWS

3. Distracted Driving Status Report

RAC is seeking an exemption for Ontario Amateurs from Ontario
Legislation 366/09, the "distracted driving" law. Last year Steve
Pengelly, VE3STV, Jeff Stewart, VE3WXM, and Bill Unger, VE3XT made a
presentation to MTO officials requesting this exemption. The MTO
officials asked for some time to think this through and made a
commitment to contact us in early 2012.

At the moment we are advising all Ontario Amateurs to wait for a
reply from MTO. If the reply is in our favour, end of story. If not
we have several ideas in the works. Stay tuned for updates.

4. Antarctic Special Event

The Worldwide Antarctic Program's 9th Antarctic Activity Week,
will be held from 0000Z February 20 through 2400Z February 26.
One of the callsigns used will be VB3A; North American stations QSL

5. Burlington Spring Flea Market

The Burlington Amateur Radio Club will hold its annual flea market
on Saturday, February 25, at the Royal Canadian Legion, 828 Legion
Road, in Burlington. General admission at 9 am; talk-in on
VE3RSB repeater, 147.210(+) 131.8 Hz tone. For more information
