RAC Ontario Section Bulletin for January 16, 2010

NATIONAL NEWS

1. Haiti Earthquake Updates

On January 13, Father John Henault, HH6JH, in Port-au-Prince, made
contact with the Intercontinental Assistance and Traffic Net (IATN)
on 14.300 MHz.

On January 15, The Radio Club Dominicano (RCD) reports and Union
Dominicana de Radio Aficionados (UDRA) were scheduled to go to
Port-au-Prince to install an emergency radio communications station,
HI8RCD/HH, and a mobile station. See www.hi8vb.tk for details.

Frequencies in use for this disaster are now 14265, 14300, 7045,
7065, 7265, 3720, and 3977 kHz. Please keep these frequencies plus
or minus 10 kHz clear. The International Radio Emergency Support
Coalition (IRESC) is also active on EchoLink node 278173. Some
Haitian hams speak only French. If you are bilingual and able to
assist, please monitor those frequencies.

As Haiti begins to recover, there may be National Traffic System (NTS)
traffic for Canadian recipients. Please check into NTS often so that
traffic for your area can be delivered. Please do not originate
traffic for Haiti during the next week; direct health and welfare

2. Olympics 2010 Special Event Prefixes

From February 1 to March 31, to commemorate the 2010 Olympic Winter
Games, Canadian amateurs are authorized to use the following special
prefixes: VG for VA, VX for VE, XJ for VO, and XK for VY.

3. Sarnia and Thunder Bay Hams in the News

The Lambton County Radio Club got a nice write-up last week in the
Sarnia Observer; you can see it at tinyurl.com/yeoy365 (Yankee Echo
Oscar Yankee Three Six Five). And the The Northwestern Ontario Senior
Citizens Amateur Radio Club were featured in the Thunder Bay
Chronicle Journal on December 2nd (archive not available).

5. Power Tubes Web Page

G8WRB has a web page on RF Power Amplifiers and Tubes, where you will
find data on RF power tubes from 100 W to 1 MW, as well as
application notes of interest to amateurs using tubes for power
amplifiers. The site is actively seeking uploads of data sheets for
more power tubes.
