NATIONAL NEWS
1. RAC Section Restructuring Commission
Pursuant to RAC's Field Organization Review Project, and the regional
model adopted in May 2011, Radio Amateurs of Canada has formed a
Section Restructuring Commission. To best serve our membership, the
Commission will determine the most effective number of Section
Managers and other positions, and any further regional such divisions
which may be required. The final report is expected by November 2011,
with implementation in 2012.
Members of the Commission are Bill Unger VE3XT, Director Ontario
Northeast (Chair), Jeffery Stewart VA3WXM, Director Ontario South,
Pat Barrett VE3RNH, Vic Henderson VE3FOX and a member yet to be

2. Brantford Hamfest
The Brantford Amateur Radio Club will hold its 2011 Hamfest on
Saturday, August 20, at the Burford Fairgrounds, 6 Park Avenue in
Burford. General admission at 9 a.m.; talk-in on VE3TCR repeater,

3. ARISSat-1 Deployed
ARISSat-1/KEDR has been deployed from the Internaional Space Station
on August 3. JR8LWY reports copying the telemetry beacon as the
satellite passed over Japan.
Full operation is still pending performance evaluation of the UHF
antenna. Please submit reception reports on amsat-bb and via the
mission's e-mail boxes at www.amsat.org.

4. International Lighthouse Weekend
The 14th annual International Lighthouse and Lightship Weekend (ILLW)
will be August 20-21. Over 378 entrants worldwide will participate,
to promote public awareness of lighthouses and lightships and their
need for preservation and restoration, and to promote amateur radio
and foster international goodwill. For more information visit

5. Special Event Stations
From August 20-21, special event stations VC7L and VC3L will
commemorate International Lighthouse/Lightship Weekend. VC7L will
operate from Pilot Point, British Columbia; QSL via VE7CRQ. VC3L
will operate from Oakville, Ontario; QSL via VE0BP.
