1. RADIO SHACK USA - Founded in 1921 is expected to shut its doors soon.

Multiple news sources are reporting what many have expected for awhile:
that the longtime electronic goods retailer RadioShack, will shut down.
Expected to file for bankruptcy, RadioShack is reportedly going to sell
half of its
4,000 stores to Sprint, and close the other half.
It's actually quite a sad day for the company, which filled a market
need for everyone
from amateur computer makers to ham radio enthusiasts to audio/visual
equipment lovers.

2. RESCUE RADIO: ARES CALLED OUT IN OHIO PHONE OUTAGE

ARES volunteers in northeast Ohio were activated on January 13th. This
after 9-1-1 and other telephone services went down in six counties due
to a power failure at a major AT&T center in Akron.

Amateur Radio tactical communication regarding the status of systems and
repairs confirmed what was being reported via The Ohio State
Multi-Agency Radio Communication System. The Amateur Radio activation
terminated after 4 hours, once the 9-1-1 system was brought back online.

3. COCOS ISLAND IN FEBRUARY 2015

In DX up front, TI9A will be active from Cocos Island between February
16th and the 23rd, 2015.
It has been 6 years since the last TI9 operation, and because of this
Cocos Island is ranked
26th on the most wanted DX list.
The operators will be using two radios on 80 through 10 meter CW, SSB
and RTTY.

4. U+ LTE Radio Transceiver APP

LG UPlus has launched a unique mobile application which can be used as a
portable radio transceiver,
enabling communication between up to 500 users at the same time across
the globe.

The company said in areas where LTE networking or wifi is available,
users can communicate by simply
pushing a button on the app.

There are no additional charges for the app, but using the app for 30
minutes a day will result in approximately
430MB of data use a month, according to the company.
