NATIONAL NEWS
1. RAC Recognition Awards
	Jeff Dovyak, VE4MBQ, has been nominated to receive our first RAC
	Member Recognition Award. An Amateur since 1994, Jeff has been very
	active with Winnipeg ARES, and is the Emergency Coordinator for
	Winnpeg since 1994.
	For the very first time, a group has been nominated to receive the
	Extraordinary Service Award. The VE4WWO CANWARN Net Controller Team
	has been serving the Prairie and Arctic Storm Prediction Center
	(PASPC) in Winnipeg. They number 13 strong, and spend long hours
	doing Net Control duties and storm spotting.

2. RAC 2013 AGM concluded
	The Radio Amateurs of Canada held the Annual General Meeting on
	October 5th in Ancaster, Ontario. RAC President Geoffrey
	Bawden's report is available on the RAC website. Of particular
	interest is that, after a two and a half year effort, RAC has
	returned to financial solvency, as confirmed by the audit report.
	RAC would like to sincerely thank the Hamilton Amateur Radio Club and
	its volunteers for hosting the event, and ICOM Canada and Radioworld
	for generously providing two transceivers for the hamfest draw.
	The 2014 AGM will take place in Vancouver, during the Pacific
	Northwest DX Convention, July 25-27th. Convention details can be

3. New Certified EC
	Congratulations are extended to Ken Brightling VE3ETP of London,
	Ontario. He's Canada's newest Certified Emergency Coordinator (CEC).

4. Salisbury Special Event
	An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact
	is scheduled for the Salisbury Middle School, in Salisbury, New
	Brunswick, for the week of November 18th.
	Leading up to this event, members of the Moncton Area Amateur Radio
	Club and the Tri County Amateur Radio Club will set up a temporary
	station in the school on November 15th, to give students a chance to
	contact hams in distant lands, and perhaps decide to join the world
	of amateur radio. Operation will be from 1300 until 1830 UTC, on 40m
	to 10m plus VHF/UHF, using special event callsign VC9SMS. QSL via

5. Another "Last Man Standing" Ham Episode
	"Last Man Standing" producer John Amodeo, NN6JA, reports that lead
	character Mike Baxter (Tim Allen) finally gets on the ham bands
	during the program's Thanksgiving episode, which was shot in
	mid-October and scheduled to air on November 22 on ABC.
	According to John, Mike heads to his basement ham shack to escape a
	house full of guests waiting for Thanksgiving dinner to be served.
	This is the second "Last Man Standing" episode to include ham radio
	as a story element, and the first in which Allen's character is seen
	operating his ham station.
