ONTARIO SECTION NEWS

1. New Eastern Ontario DEC

Effective September 1st, Lance Peterson VA3LP has been appointed
District Emergency Coordinator (DEC) for the Eastern Ontario ARES
District, previously known as Seaway/Capital District.

Lance has been an advanced amateur radio operator since 1978, and
served in the Canadian Armed Forces as an avionics technician.
He has been Assistant DEC since 2004 and has also served as interim
EC for Prescott-Russell ARES. Please join me in supporting Lance in
his new position.

2. TFMCS AGM and Picnic

The Toronto FM Communications Society will hold its Annual General
Meeting and Picnic on Sunday, September 16, at 11 am, at the VE3RPT
Repeater Site, Skyloft Ski Resort, 722 Chalk Lake Road, in Uxbridge.
Membership renewals will be accepted before the meeting. For more

3. Azores Islands Hunt

Hams from Europe and North America will activate stations on all nine
Azores islands, prefixes CU1 through CU9, from 1200 UTC September 29
to 1200 UTC September 30. Everyone contacting at least five
different CU islands during the 24-hour event will be entered into a
lottery for a free trip to the Azores. Also, the first 25 operators
to contact all nine CU islands will be entered into a second lottery.

4. Field Day Logs Posted

The combined list of Logs Received for Field Day 2012 has been posted
online, at www.arrl.org/logs-received. The list includes all logs
submitted via the www.b4h.net website, as well as those submitted via
e-mail and US Mail. More than 2600 submissions have been received.

5. Lightning Protection Info

The ARRL web site offers a three-part series about lightning
protection, at www.arrl.org/lightning-protection. And the Institute
for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEE) publishes a 61-page PDF
on "How To Protect Your Home and Its Contents From Lightning,"
available at tinyurl.com/ieee-lightning.
