NATIONAL NEWS
1. Request for Plasma TV Information
RAC is compiling information on possible interference to amateur HF
activities from plasma-screen television sets.  Members that own a
plasma TV are invited to report their experiences. 
Reports should name the make and model of TV, and describe the HF
station and antenna system and the exact nature of the interference
(what bands, what sound etc).  Remedies such as ferrite chokes should

1. New Affiliated Club Coordinator
RAC is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Critch, VE3QTH
as National Affiliated Club Coordinator. Robert is the current
President of Barrie Amateur Radio Club, and owner and president of a
small telecommunications company. He is active on VHF, UHF, and HF on
several Phone and Digital modes, and participates in CANWARN, ARES,
and club activities.

1. VPFS Council Appointments
In November 2010 a review of the RAC Field Organization was begun to
review and reform the Amateur Radio Emergency Service. I am pleased
to announce the following appointments:
Garry Jacobs VE6CIA, Alberta Section Manager, as Chairman of the
"Mission" working group, advised by Doug Mein VA3DM.  Allan Boyd
VE3AJB, Ontario Section Manager, as Chairman of the "Training
Specification" working group, advised by Ian Snow VA3QT.  James King

ONTARIO SECTION NEWS
1. New EC Appointments
Two new Emergency Coordinators have joined the Ontario ARES team. We
welcome Richard Upfield, VA3RMU, representing Brampton/Caledon in the
Greater Toronto Area.  And also Alan Viitala, VA3AJV, in the Sudbury
region.
Both appointees have expressed a strong interest in community service
and the development of their local Emergency Communications
resources.

1. Nova Scotia Special Prefixes
From February 1 through February 28, Nova Scotia amateurs are
authorized to use prefix CJ1 for VA1, and CK1 for VE1.  This is to
commemorate the 2011 Canada Games in Nova Scotia.

NATIONAL NEWS
1. Caribbean Emergency and Weather Net
The purpose of the Caribbean Emergency & Weather Net (CEWN) is to
handle all forms of Amateur Radio  traffic, pass weather information,
and emergency traffic. Currently the CEWN meets twice daily, at 10:30
and 22:30 UTC on  3.815 MHz. During emergencies, sessions will be
extended, and  may be conducted on 7.162 MHz if conditions require.

1. VA3DM appointed Special Advisor
I am very pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Mein VA3DM,
Special Advisor to the Radio Amateurs of Canada Field Organization.
Doug's focus will be with strategic matters that affect the Radio
Amateurs of Canada Field Organization nationally.
Doug has an extensive background and is retired from Transport
Canada  after 33 years of service. During the Sept. 11 attacks on the

1. Local Net Activity Reports Solicited
 
I encourage each local level net, whether conducted on VHF/UHF or HF,
to report the net activities to the Section Traffic Manager at the
end of each month. The report need not be long.  Simply list the
number of sessions, the total of checkins, any traffic handled and
the total elapsed time for the month. This will enable us at Field
Services to have an idea of just what net activities are occurring

To Fellow Radio Amateurs, your Families and Loved ones: I bring you
