NATIONAL NEWS

1. RAC Announces Post Secondary Scholarships.

Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) is pleased to announce that in 2015 we
will be offering scholarships
to young Amateurs who are enrolled in post secondary studies in Science,
Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) programs. The deadline for applications is July 31,
2015.

In 2014 RAC gave out three Education Scholarships of $500 each. Details
on all four categories of scholarships
and applications can be found at Scholarships Canada

ONTARIO SECTIONS NEWS

2. Section Manager for Ontario South Announced.

Allan Foley, VE3XAL of New Lowell Ontario has accepted his appointment
as Radio Amateurs of Canada
Section Manager for Ontario South, effective immediately.
Al has been an amateur for more than 25 years and has been active and
involved in amateur radio community service,
and emergency planning. Al has spent many years at various locations
throughout Ontario with his work in MNR.
Allan lives in New Lowell, with wife Peggy VE3PGY and son Don VE3DZA.
RAC welcomes Allan aboard and is confident that he will bring positive
things both to his Section and to RAC Field Operations.

3. the Planetary Society is requesting signal reports on their LightSail
satellite.

(scroll down to the bottom), the downlink signal is:
Frequency: 437.435 MHz
Protocol: AX.25
Encoding: FSK
Baud: 9600 bps

4. Citizens Assist Radio Service

The Toronto ARES Group has launched a new emergency radio communications
program.
The goal is to link Amateur Radio Operators to citizens needing help
when normal lines of communication are down.
The program called Citizen Assist Radio Service uses GMRS radios to
communicate using specific channels.
Details are outlined on the CA-RADIO web site –

Until the system is widely established, Amateur Radio Operators are
asked to run scheduled field tests
in their area followed by citizen involvement.
Get the media interested to spread the news. Put a link on the your club
web site.

5. Free on-line course on satellite remote sensing

There is a new online course on satellite remote sensing made available
by the European Space Agency at
http://www.futurelearn.com It's called: Observing Climate Change from Space
There is no fee - it is free, and it's the state of the art about what
satellites
do in measuring climate and other factors from space.
Lesson 1 started on Monday.
