ITEMS OF INTEREST

2. The popular QRZ.com website has been undergoing a major upgrade since last Friday,
and things are going a bit more slowly than initially anticipated.
QRZ.com Founder and President Fred Lloyd, AA7BQ, said the site’s engineers “have encountered some unforeseen problems.”

“What started out as a simple update that went bad is now almost over - We’ve replaced our forums software and are
reconfiguring it for use with QRZ. While we realize that many folks have been concerned, we want to express our
sincere thanks to those who have been patient and understanding with us as we work overtime to put the system back online.”

The outage does not affect call sign lookups, logbook, and other site features.
QRZ.com is “looking forward to a shiny new user interface and a bunch of
new features for our wildly popular Ham Radio Forums.”

3. IARU Voting to accept additional members.

A revote is in the works among International Amateur Radio Union members on whether to admit the Republic of Kosovo's national
amateur radio association. A previous membership vote, taken last year, failed narrowly when just 49 ballots were cast in favour
before the voting period expired. Additional votes of approval arrived not long after voting had concluded,
rendering these votes ineligible for being counted.
The Republic of Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008, has had a formal amateur radio organization,
known by the letters SHRAK, since 2000. In 2008, the government set aside the call prefix of Z6 for the nation's hams.
The IARU did vote to admit Burundi, with 67 affirmative votes clinching membership for the African Republic.

4. Health Effects of Electromagnetic Fields

The EC Scientific Committee on Emerging and Newly Identified Health Risks (SCENIHR) has published their opinion on
potential health effects of exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMF)
The report notes: "Overall, the epidemiological studies on RF EMF exposure do not show an increased risk of brain tumours.
Furthermore, they do not indicate an increased risk for other cancers of the head and neck region."
