1. Dayton Hamvention attendance up this year.

The official attendance at the 2015 Dayton Hamvention® was 25,621.
That’s an increase from the official count of 24,873 visitors last year.
The 2013 attendance was 24,542.

Hamvention attendance peaked in 1993 at 33,669, before the 1996 change
in date from April to May.

While attendance has fluctuated over the years, Hamvention has grown to

1. CANWARN Training Summary for 2015

Geoff Coulson reports "Across the province, just shy of 1500 people came
out this year.
Of that total, about 500 were first time attendees, so the overall
number of spotters in the database
now rests at around 6500.

1. Defense of Amateur Radio Fund Donation.

The Defence of Amateur Radio Fund (DARF) is pleased to announce a
$10,000 donation from an anonymous ham.
The donor noted that he based the amount on the projected costs to
support the travel and living expenses
of the RAC respresentative for the upcoming World Radio Conference in
Geneva in November 2015.

1. Appointment of new RAC Corporate Secretary - Sukwan Widajat, VA3WID

Sukwan Widajat is originally from Indonesia and moved to Canada in 2011.
He has been working as a VP of Finance/Corporate Secretary for the past
few years of a paper product
distribution company in Brampton, ON. Sukwan lives with his wife and
three children in Mississauga.

1. RAC Announces Post Secondary Scholarships.

Radio Amateurs of Canada (RAC) is pleased to announce that in 2015 we
will be offering scholarships
to young Amateurs who are enrolled in post secondary studies in Science,
Technology, Engineering and
Mathematics (STEM) programs. The deadline for applications is July 31,
2015.

In 2014 RAC gave out three Education Scholarships of $500 each. Details

1. RAC Comments on the ARRL proposed changes to HF Band Plans

The ARRL published proposed changes to the U.S. HF band plan for comment
in the April edition of QST.
The RAC Band Planning Committee reviewed the proposals for potential
impacts on Canadian Amateurs.
The proposed changes increase the U.S. digital sub-bands by extending
frequency limits upwards

and US amateurs honour the request of Alberta ARES that priority be
given to Alberta
amateurs on 14.135, 7.135 and 3.675 in their support of the Alberta

1. HAM RADIO EFFORTS CONTINUE IN WAKE OF NEPAL EARTHQUAKE

Ham radio continues to provide service to the people of Nepal in the
wake of the devastating earthquake that hit
last month. A second large quake hit this week in the northern part of
Nepal.
Operations are taking place on a number of frequencies in the 40, 20 and
15 meter bands with 9N1SP and 9N1AJ
