NATIONAL NEWS

1. Newfoundland ARISS Contact

The Society of Newfoundland Radio Amateurs (SONRA), partnering with
the Royal Canadian Air Cadets and the Admiralty House Museum and
Archives, hosted an ARISS contact on Saturday January 12.

A group of Air Cadets in Mount Pearl had the opportunity to talk with
Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield on the International Space Station.

2. Canadian Ski Marathon seeks radio operators

The Canadian Ski Marathon will take place February 9th and 10th
between Lachute and Buckingham in western Quebec - snow or shine.
The Marathon depends on ham radio volunteers to provide important and
timely safety and logistical communications for the benefit of the
skiers. The amateur radio CSM web page is at www.radio-1.ca and is
up and running with 2013 information.

If you would like to volunteer this year, please email Harold
VA3UNK at radio1 (at) admin2.ca or va3unk (at) gmail.com.
Assignment requests cannot be promised, but are generally are on a
first-come, first-served basis.

3. Nominations Open for Hamvention Awards

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2013 Dayton Hamvention
Awards. Awards are granted to three individuals in the Technical
Excellence, Special Achievement, and Amateur of the Year categories,
and to one club with the Club of the Year Award.

Nomination forms, criteria, and more information may be obtained at
www.hamvention.org/awards.php. Nominations must be submitted no
later than February 15, 2013

4. Submitting Bulletin Items

Amateur Radio groups in Ontario that wish to announce upcoming
events, or report on their activities, are invited to send brief
items to the Official Bulletin Manager email address,
obm (at) ve3rhj.net. Items should be no more than twelve lines long,
and must be received by Wednesday for the next week's bulletin,
